March 07: B&C member Robyn Crossman scoops Yonex Junior Volunteer of the Year award.

Recognition at the highest level and praise indeed, for one of our own members and her achievements.  Julia Strong Regional Development Officer for BADMINTON England commented:

“What a committed and inspirational young volunteer Robyn is to Bedfordshire badminton.  As part of Robyn’s numerous volunteer tasks she has been involved in planning the county tournaments, has helped to establish and promote a new club within the county, played a part in her own club achieving Silver Club and maintained her allegiance to another small club.  What next – This year she has agreed to take on the role as co-ordinator for the Bedfordshire Youth Games.”

Well done Robyn (pictured below with Yonex Volunteer of the Year Eric Richardson, Essex)

March 07: Excellent turnout for the annual Invitational Tournament.

With 50 entrants from Beds, Bucks, Northants and as far a field as Norfolk & Berkshire a good standard was guaranteed.  And what a weekend it turned out to be, with the Northants County team dominating the mixed competition, a scratch pairing making the semi-finals in the men’s and a very close finish in both men’s doubles and mixed plate finals.  If this wasn’t enough, there was a brief distraction off-court when someone managed to pull a tap head off in the kitchen necessitating some emergency repairs (wrist strengthening exercises to blame!).

Anyway another is planned for next year – so watch this space.  Here are the results:
